Thanksgiving 2020
I create this blog for discussion of Thanksgiving 2020. You can add to this by comment or you can post. I have tried to include everyone as an author but you have to accept the invitation to post. Your can post without being an author with your email account.
Basic Idea: I have told some of you of this already, but my basic idea is to hold thanksgiving at the Historic Hat Ranch near Williams, AZ. It sits at about 7,500 elevation at the base of Mount Williams. It is sort of a bed and breakfast place. Kathy and I are going there on a moonless night in April or May to check it out. Thursday would be a travel/arrival day. We would actually have Thanksgiving dinner catered by Tom from the Flagstaff Cracker Barrel at noon on Friday. Tom would be in charge of getting meal and transporting guest to and from Flagstaff Airport if any are using that.
Taxes: I have said I might be willing to cover some of the cost for directors of Double Lux, Ltd. The advantage is if we have a board meeting on Thursday, the corporation can legitimately write off some of the costs. I might add, other corporations, or LLC s might be able to do the same. My willingness to do this cost share might be tempered a bit by the hard times the company is having right now.
Hunting: Ben and I will be elk hunting Friday and Saturday morning. We are usually off the Matterhorn by 11 a.m. so that works for a Thanksgiving dinner. I am thinking of renting a camper for the one week hunt. It rents for $75.00 per day and would sleep at least 3 hunters and maybe more kiddos. Kids might have a blast sleeping in the camper at Historic Hat Ranch while adults are in the main house or bunk house. Ranch is pet friendly I am told.
Travel: When I checked, airfare from Dallas to Flag was $400 and from Orlando to Flag it was $700. Might be cheaper now. I assume Lairds and Tom would drive. Christi and family probably would fly into Flagstaff. I am thinking of two nights stay at the Ranch.
I think the Lairds kids are off school Thanksgiving week and Tom says not a problem with James. Assume school kids would have to head back mid day Saturday so that is why check out would be Saturday.
Your thoughts? I am hunting November 28 to December 3 near Hat Ranch.

Would we not be eating on Thanksgiving Day because you're thinking people would be traveling? We have to have a meal on Thanksgiving Day, if nothing else in the evening. Also if you or Ben shoot a monster elk on Friday morning, then you're not back for Friday meal. I just think there needs to be a Thursday meal.
ReplyDeletei am excited about this opportunity. I don't know about traveling on Thursday, it would be cheap, but I might like to come sooner.
ReplyDeleteCome sooner. We will all be in AZ earlier that week
